Although we hope Kris Humphries is really the one for Kim Kardashian, the pair is not taking any chances when it comes to their bank accounts. According to E! News, the couple will sign a
prenuptial agreement that will serve to protect their respective wealth if things don't last until death do they part.
"It's a standard prenup," an inside source told E. "They just want something that makes sense for both of them."
Although both should consider themselves well beyond the term millionaire, Kardashian stands to lose much more if things don't work out for the couple -- she's worth roughly $35 million while Humphries is worth $8 million.
"When it comes to the money, Kim just thinks it's always smart to have a contract and she has always looked at things that way," the source continued. "It is the responsible thing to do."
More possible details of the pre-nup are trickling out, including who exactly is behind it. "Her mom, Kris Jenner, drew up the contracts," a source told Us Weekly. "Kim's Beverly Hills home and all of her assets are protected,"
The New Jersey Nets forward has a contract that nets him $3.2 million a year, so he won't exactly be hurting for money if things don't work out. The contract also states that all of Kardashian's income during the marriage -- Forbes reported the reality star made $12 million in 2010 -- is also off limits if the marriage does go sour.
"He does not receive anything if the marriage fails," the Us source added. "He agreed to that. He's not worried."
Does Humphries at least get the 20.5-carat, $2 million engagement ring, that sealed the deal with Kardashian, back if the couple decides to throw in the towel? Although the arrangement sounds responsible, it's a bit lacking on the romantic side.
And their incomes won't be the only thing the couple keeps separate -- Kardashian will not be ditching her famous last name.
"I think at home and privately, for sure [I'll be 'Mrs. Humphries'.]" she told Us. "But I think I will always have Kardashian for work."
Just like the bathroom sinks in their future California mansion, Kardashian is trying to keep things 'his and hers' all the way. But the newly engaged couple may be on the right track. Since announcing her engagement, at the end of May, the duo has already been embroiled in countless scandals from rumors of a pregnancy to a pre-marital affair. Some low-key, headline-unworthy "responsibility" may be just what the couple needs.
