The Hollywood director and screenwriter Nora Ephron has died, she was 71.
News of Nora’s ill health came to light just last Tuesday, when talk began to pop up on the internet that the legendary writer was battling cancer.
Ephron’s family were reported to have been planning her funeral prior to her death, according to tinsel town gossip columnist, Liz Smith.
Three times wed Nora’s success in the film industry came via an unusual route, following her second husband Carl Bernstein's infidelity with the daughter of UK Prime Minister, James Callaghan.
The affair with Margaret Jay inspired Nora to write her novel Heartburn, which she adapted for film in 1986.
That wasn’t’ her only brush with politics though, New York born Ephron previously worked as a White House intern during the administration of President Kennedy in the 60’s.
However, she will best be remembered for movies such as When Harry Met Sally, for which she was awarded a BAFTA.
‘This Is My Life’ was her first attempt at directing in 1992 and ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ was another massive success for her, as was ‘You’ve Got Mail’, ‘Bewitched’ and ‘Julie & Julia’.
The Women in Film Crystal Award winner also ventured into theatre, where she enjoyed much success with her play ‘Imaginary Friends’ in the states.
Nora leaves behind third spouse, fellow screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi and two sons, Max and Jacob.
